The Living with Cancer SA statue campaign was created to do exactly that. To take something deeply personal and make it visible. To stop people in their tracks and remind them that behind every statistic is a real person, a real story, a real journey.
This campaign was not just about awareness. It is about recognition. Too many cancer stories in South Africa are never captured in the data that shapes healthcare decisions, research and support systems. The statue stands as a symbol of every patient who has felt unseen, unheard or uncounted. It represents the urgency of ensuring that no cancer journey is lost.
Through this campaign, we called on patients to step forward, share their experience and be part of South Africa’s first patient-led cancer registry. Because when stories are counted, they start to change systems.
